Illumine

Illumine. Definition, to shine light on; Make more visible.

A coworker who I'm famously on shaky ground with expressed disbelief at seeing the word 'illumined' used on a placard, instead of 'illuminated.'

"Is that even a word?! Illumined? That doesn't sound like a real word!"

I asked him if he had tried looking it up, if it was bothering him that much. This likely would've been something he had noticed yesterday at the latest, since he hadn't left our breakroom yet this morning, as far as I was aware. Possibly he had been stuck on this for 12 hours or more.

Of course he hadn't looked it up in that time. And of course I did the work for him on the spot.

Illumined is apparently the Future Perfect Continuous tense of the base Illumine. Illuminate is just the more well-known verb.

I was illumined to how lazy and reactive my coworker really is. He's a pot stirrer and seems to prefer when people are annoyed, more than anything. It might be a shame I like my job more than I dislike him, but maybe if I'm lucky he'll get bored himself - eventually - and move on...
